NoName057(16) is one of the most prolific and organised pro-Russian hacktivist groups to emerge since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Unlike typical hacktivist collectives relying on centralised attack infrastructure, NoName057(16) has developed and distributed the DDoSia tool.

The DDoSia platform is accompanied by a Telegram channel with tens of thousands of subscribers, through which NoName057(16) announces daily attack targets. Volunteer participants who successfully contribute to attacks are rewarded with cryptocurrency payments, creating a gamified incentive structure for participation.

NoName057(16) has claimed attacks against targets in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Finland, Sweden, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Romania, and dozens of other nations. While individual DDoS attacks rarely cause prolonged outages to well-protected infrastructure, the group's high operational tempo and consistent media presence has made them a significant force in the information warfare dimension of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The group's crowdsourced model represents an evolution in hacktivist operations, effectively lowering the barrier to participation in state-aligned cyber operations and demonstrating how motivated nation-states can mobilise civilian computing resources at scale without formal recruitment or direct operational control.
